My family and I went to the Beaches Resort in Turks and Caicos during the winter of 05. This is the second Beaches Resort we have been to. The first was one in Jamaica. I'm not really a tropical weather person, but I managed to enjoy myself. I have to say though; I liked the one in Jamaica much better. Turks and Caicos has less crime, but it also has less hospitality. Also, besides the ocean, there isn't much of interest on Turks and Caicos. The Island interior is pretty dry and shrub covered. That's okay though, because most people come for the scuba diving. Apparently, Turks and Caicos has some of the best diving in the world...on the other side of the Island that we were on.
The Beaches Resort itself was pretty nice. It had nice rooms, the meals were included in the initial cost of everything, and it was child-friendly. I personally got sick of the food selection pretty fast, but I'm a picky eater. Most of the activities were ocean-based: kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, etc. We were able to take a scuba diving class (we don't have our permits) and went diving at a pretty cool reef. My mother has hearing problems and is unable to get her ears wet, so she spent the entire trip reading. There really wasn't much else she was able to do. I managed to find a place (outside the resort) to horseback ride and I did that twice. The people horses at this trail string were well taken care of (which is rare for trail strings), and that is important to me.
Anyway, I probably wouldn't go back to this particular place. It was okay, but if I'm going to spend a bunch of money, I want more than an "okay" experience.
