Bejeweled 2 Deluxe is a sequel to the original Bejeweled game by Popcap Games. It's a puzzle game in which you swap gems of different colors and shapes in order to make at least three of the same gem in a row. When you do so, those gems disappear making room for new ones. You repeat this until you have no more moves or when time runs out, depending on which mode you're playing.
The easy learning curve and perfect pace in Bejeweled 2 make it just as good, if not better, than the original Bejeweled. There are two new gem types that add flavor to the game without taking away from the fun factor that was found in the original. Power gems are created by making a row of four gems, and if you then make a row with a power gem in it, it explodes. Hyper cubes are created by making a row of five gems, and if you swap it with another gem, all gems of that color are destroyed. Aside from the two new gems, Bejewled 2 Deluxe has four game play modes (plus some hidden modes).
In Classic mode you can play as slowly as you want, carefully planning moves to maximize your score. In Action mode you are in a race against the clock. As long as you keep swapping gems, your time won't run out, but you have to go faster as you progress in the game. Endless mode is just that...it doesn't end. As in, you can't run out of moves. Not really my style, so I didn't try this one much.
An interesting new twist that appears in Bejeweled 2 Deluxe is Puzzle mode. The goal in puzzle mode is to clear the board of jewels. New ones don't appear when you clear jewels out, so with the right sequence of swaps each puzzle can be cleared. This mode gets quite challenging as you get several levels in. It's a great way to play, and requires much more thinking than the other modes.
If you loved the first Bejeweled, you won't be disappointed with Bejeweled 2 Deluxe. If you have never tried either, well, you should! There's countless hours just waiting to be wasted - I mean, spent enjoying Bejeweled 2 Deluxe.
