I have been looking at USB hubs for some time now. With headphones, cell phone chargers, digital cameras all needing USB ports, crawling around behind my computer to plug and unplug these cables was a pain!
I found the Belkin 4-port USB hub at my local Best Buy. I did not need more than 4 ports (though a 7 port model is also available), and the colors and sleek design drew me in.
The Belkin USB hub has a power adaptor, but this is not required if you are using the hub for lower-powered items, such as headphones, keyboard, or mice. However, if you want to use the hub for more power-hungry applications (digital cameras/camcorders, etc), using the power supply is recommended.
Set up was a breeze - plug in the power cord (if needed), and plug the usb cable from the back of the hub into your computer's usb port. Done!
There are 2 USB ports in the back of the hub (for more permanent cabling such as mice and keyboards) as well as 2 hubs on top of the unit for things you remove often, such as cameras, iPods, headphones and such.
This has been a welcome addition to my computer desk - not only do I have extra USB ports for all of my gadgets but it is a small, simple design that will work with any decor. If the white and blue is not your thing, however, there is a brown/black model as well.
If you are looking for a good USB hug to handle your extra cabling needs, this is the way to go!
