We recently visited some of my husbands family that lives in Benson Vermont. Benson is about 2 hours just over the New York - Vermont border. There is one "department store", which carries everything from clothing to everyday needs, and several little country markets and bait shops. Most people who live there farm their own farm fresh food, as well as fish and hunt their own meat. His family does all their own milk, fruit, eggs, and syrup. Vermont is the greenest state I have ever been to. I would get up in the morning step outside and just want to faint at the beauty that greeted me. The dog just loved running free out there. At the near by lake you could go boating, swimming and fishing. There is a large population of ice fishermen that frequent the Benson area in the winter. There also is a large summer camp there for boys. My husband said he has camped up at the local pond many times. The local pond, called Perch pond is named for the fact that if you toss in a fishing line you will pull out a perch.
I really fell in love with Vermont. Benson was the perfect getaway from life. It was so nice to look out at night and see the stars. I loved waking up looking out my window and instead of a parking area I saw trees and the greenest shades of greens you will ever see. Any time you need a break from life go to Benson, Vermont.
