This mug is one of a series of beautiful mugs from the Bergsma Art Gallery, but I’m not as enthused as I might be since they recommend no microwave or dishwasher.
This is an oversized, 15 oz coffee mug that was a Christmas gift. Hubby really likes this large size for coffee or hot chocolate, and anything with eagles is on his wish list. So from his perspective this was an ideal gift. All of their mugs have a design that wraps around the body with duplicate pictures on each side and an emblem or design opposite the handle. This mug is labeled “Freedom” and has eagles and a modified version of the great seal of the United States on each side. In the middle is an arrangement of stars with the largest one having the stars and stripes coloration.
The mug is heavy white ceramic with a comfortable handle.
However, the web site for Bergsma warns that repeated use in the microwave or dishwasher can cause fading of the design. I suppose they have to say this just to protect themselves from complaints later on. I have had several decorated mugs that have faded over time. I know this one is going to be used in the microwave. Right now we don’t have a dishwasher, but I’m sure that if we did, I would put it in.
I suppose if you were keeping these mugs as collectibles you might want to keep it perfect forever. If you want a mug, it really needs to be able to be put in themicrowave and dishwasher.
There are hundreds of products decorated with a wide range of beautiful designs painted by Jody Bergsma. Not only are her paintings for sale, but the designs are available on everything from mugs to scarves, t-shirts, cards, towels, plates, puzzles, vases and more. I had never heard of the line, but it is obviously well-established.
The mugs are available in the 15 oz size, like the one we received, and regular 11 oz size. They are listed at $11.99.
