We were given Helen Oxenbury's "Big Baby Book" by our pediatrician at my first daughter's very first doctor's appointment over 5 years ago as part of a literacy program our doctor participates in. It has to be the most-read, most-used book my dauhgter owns!!
The book is set up sort of like a picture-book, with a little boy talking about a different theme on each page. For example, it starts with "I see...." and then shows different pictures with the word next to it, like "a butterfly" or "an airplane." It has been a great book for my growing girl because as a small child she loved to look at the pictures, and then as she grew it helped her learn to read. She can now read all the words by herself, and it was her first book she could read al lby herself, which she was very proud of!
I love the artwork in this book, and I fully appreciate its durability- it's made out of heavy paper-board, and has survived two moves and 5 years. Great book for anyone with a new addition to the family, you;ll get much use out of it!
