Many years ago, several cities throughout the United States had different types of painted animal artworks on display.
Here in Florida, we had Swans in Lakeland, Horses in Ocala and even Walt Disney World had Mickey Mouse decorated this way and they all stood in front of the welcome center at the Magic Kingdom.
All of these animals were decorated with significant designs that related to the group doing the paintings. These were wonderful pieces of artwork and several traveled throughout the country on display so others could enjoy them. Now, these past works of art are on display at several businesses who purchased them when the shows were over.
When I was in Big Lots one day, I saw a few of these on sale for only $0.50 - yes, fifty cents! I had to buy them. I sold all but one on eBay and this cute pig adds to my angel collection.
He is painted a light blue and has darker blue "spots" on his back, legs, head and belly. A "gold" halo adorns his head and he is sporting shiny silver wings on his back. The label in front of him states, "Celestial Swine", on the bottom it states, "The Big Pigs 2002 Art Opportunities, Inc. Vandor - SLC, UT.Check out their website too of talented artwork that they currently have. Maybe you will find something to add to your collection?
Here is a website that gives some images and locations of the pigs that had been around during the showings. It's the Big Pig Gig website. The first large pig shown on the website sold at auction for $37, 500!
Whether your city had these animals on parade or not, they were all incredible. They were also life sized too.
I love my little blue Angel Swine and hope you enjoy looking at the website that gives even more details.
