I often spend my weekends searching for books or antiques, and of course great deals. Value Village is one of my favorite place to shop for books and so on, I saved a fortune last fall when I decided to check out Value Village educational and text book section in the book department and found the majority of the $200.00 text books I needed for my university classes for $3.99!!
Being out of school for a few years and then going back, starting my first year of university, majoring in Nutritional Science to become a dietitian, meant that I would have to take alot of science oriented classes like chemistry, biochemistry and so on. I was never that great at science in highschool, and it has been over ten years since I graduated from highschool, so naturally I was worried how I was going to do in my science classes. I spent all last summer studying online highschool chemistry and science websites, I bought some old highschool science textbooks from use bookstores for a few dollars and studied my little heart out, trying to remember all this stuff I didn't pay much attention to when I was 16 yearold highschool student.
On one of my trips to the second hand store looking for educational books, I happened across a book by Bill Nye, I had remembered him from when I was in the fifth grade, his books were very popular as was he, I remembered how I enjoyed reading his science books and watching his tv show when I was little, how he actually made science fun and made it make sense to me. So I picked up his book, it was only 50 cents and when I was done looking through it I would give it to my 8 year old nephew.
The book was a little youngish for me, after all it is a book for elementary level, but I still read through it anyway, and found it a little entertaining, he really does make science fun, I just wish he would do a tv how or book series for adults in university level science! lol!
So the book went to my little nephew and he loves the book. It contains some science experiments for the kids to do, my nephew did some and had alot of fun, he found it very educational. It covers everything from matter, nuclear forces, heat, light, electricity and magnetism, how the radio and tv works, weather and outer space.
Even though I had already been through all this in elementary school, I still found it interesting and a little refreshing for my mind to remember things I had forgotten about, and it has been a great educational tool for my nephew, he has become a Bill Nye fanatic! He now enjoys science, when before this year he used to feel sick when he had to go to science class. We decided to go on a little Bill Nye Science Guy shopping spree and I bought him a few more of his books, he really enjoys them. He wishes Bill Nye could be his science teacher, and honestly I wish Bill Nye could be mine too!
