"Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office, " is honestly one of the better books I have read in a very long time. Wooo...my fingers hurt from typing out that long title!
Bitter is the New Black is an autobiography told in first person by Jen Lancaster. She explains in dirty detail how she had everything she could have ever wanted in life, yet still wanted more, and how all that came crashing down before she knew what was happening; and then what she did to try and get it back. While reading this book I can not tell you how many times I laughed out loud and people looked at me funny. There were moments where I could identify with Jen and felt what she felt, and then other times I couldn't believe her nerve at some of the things she would do and say. She has that snarky wit though, which I've been told I have at times, which I love.
One of my favorite things about the book is her little footnotes. She'll be going on and on and then have a little footnote on the bottom of the page referencing something she said. These are probably the funniest tidbits of the book too.
The book is a VERY fast read and very enjoyable. I finished the book in a matter of a couple days. She has two more books that follow her life after this one and I have read both of them. They are equally as great and I'm anxious to hear if she's going to come out with a fourth book.
If you are looking for a good book to read that will give you lots of laughs, definitely check out this book; you will not be disappointed!
