A big disappointment. That is my opinion of this product.
I expected much more from Black and Decker, once known for making quality electronic products for home use. But this SmartGrind Coffee grinder is making me think otherwise. It is simply an appliance with barely glued-on pieces that break easily. I received this as a gift a few months ago, and I wish I could return it.
If you look at the picture, you will notice that there is a piece missing in the front. That's because it initially snapped off after one month. And it wasn't like I was using the grinder every day; I used it 3 days a week at most. On the first day, the little plastic piece that locks the lid onto the SmartGrind snapped. From that point on I had to hold the lid down with one hand to make sure it didn't come off as I pressed the trigger button.
Three weeks later, the trigger button piece broke, just from me picking it up! I had to keep putting it in place, holding it down even more and pressing the trigger that activates the grinder. And now that piece is nowhere to be found. I promise you, I don't manhandle anything.
I will say this much for it: it does the job. Once you get it grinding, it handles the beans pretty easily. But cleaning it afterwords can be a pain if you grind your beans too fine. I've used a paper clip and a small bit of water to clean out the residue if you don't want your coffee flavors to mix.
