I’ve owned a lot of snowpants in my day, and these Black Dot snowboarding pants are the only pair that ever fit right. I simply love them!
After enduring several pairs of snowpants that I call penguin pants because the crotch hangs so low that it interferes with walking naturally, I went on a quest for a pair that actually fit. Several orders went back to the companies! Then I saw these in a catalog (they were about $30) and I asked for them for Christmas a few years ago. They have been absolutely perfect.
They have a zip fly with a snap, slash side pockets with velcro closures and a loop in the seam that you could clip your keys to for extra protection. They are 100% nylon, wash in cold water.
The construction is great to not restrict movement. As I said, the crotch does not hang low, but neither does it bind. The seat is a separate panel from the back of the leg and the leg front is also in two panels divided at the knee. This gives the garment better shape for sports where you are flexing, particularly snowboarding, which is what they are designed for. But it’s a great feature for any activity. All seams except the inseam are flat fell for durability.
With black on black it is difficult for the pictures to show the bottom cuff, but I tried. The cuff is cut straight and is meant to be worn over the top of your boot. Underneath the outer cuff is a single layer elastic cuff that hugs your ankle and keeps snow and cold air out. This is nice and deep at 10 inches.
I have men’s small size.
These are really warm without being restrictive in any way. That, plus good fit and durability adds up to the best snowpants. I’m not crazy about black, but they didn’t come in any other color when I got these.
I just looked at the Black Dot web site, and of course this exact style is not offered now, but there are several others, none of which is as low as $30 any more either. But you can be sure you will get a quality garment if you go with Black Dot.
