I have been a Britney Spears fan since I was in 8th grade. Now by fan I do not mean that I promote being a crazy mom or running around sans underwear, but as far as her entertainment value goes, I think she is a great entertainer.
It has been awhile since her latest album, and her latest albums were a greatest hits album and a remix album which technically don't count as "new." So, when I saw her performance at this year's VMA awards, I was afraid poor Britney was screwed and would end up on the Surreal Life or something in a few years. Luckily, she put a little of effort into her "Gimme More" video to draw some attention to her new album, "Blackout."
I bought it off Amazon, and it arrived quickly. I listened to it all from beginning to end without any interruptions, and I was really surprised. It was a more mature album- no more "Oops I Did It Again" or "Toxic" type of nonsense. In this album she clearly put a lot of TRUE emotions into it in songs like "Piece of Me", "Radar", and the K-Fed inspired song "Why Should I Be Sad." And really, why should she be sad about an album that has more artistic quality than all her other bubblegum-pop albums?
The only negatives about her new album is the overproduction of it- they make her sound like a robot sometimes. The other negative is the number of tracks. After 4 or so years without any NEW material, why not make it a double CD like Christina Aguilera did with her Back to Basics album last year?
Other than that, great new sound, great new songs, great Britney!
