Blue Mountain Ski resorts in Collingwood, Ontario is a premier site for those in the northwest Ohio/Michigan area looking for skiing that is not too far but far enough from the flatlands of Ohio.
The Chalets of Blue Mountain feature 4-5-6 Bedroom options with a kitchen, 2 or 3 bathrooms and a sauna in the house. We have stayed there 5 times, and love the proximity to the slopes. The slopes at Blue Mountain are of a good variety, however if you are used to large, rolling hills found out west, these will be a disappointment to you. But for the area, they are nice.
The food choices immediately around the slopes are poor also, but if you venture out a few miles you will find a few choices in local eateries and bars. We personally found that the nice Chalet with a full kitchen and a local trip to the grocery store and beverage center made for a more enjoyable dinner at night, warming by the fireplace and sharing good stories.
The skiing at Blue Mountain is what I can speak to the most-that is where I have spend the majority of my time there. Although they do have off-season golf and other summer activity, I go for the skiing. The man made snow is perfect addition to the natural flurries and is soft and supple to ski on-not at all icy or rough. The lifts are variant-all the way from a simple 1 man pull rope for the "Bunny" hill to the rapid fast, 6 person lift sponsored by Pontiac Motors-it FLIES up the hill in no time. The variability of green beginner slopes to double black diamonds with narrow, step drops and moguls makes for many different and challenging courses that you can pick from.
Overall, a fun trip for a group of friends and family to enjoy, and a memorable experience for all. I would highly recommend this course and vacation area for anyone looking for a fun winter outing.
