Because most of my work is conducted online including stock investing, writing, and webdesigning. I need simple low priced computers that I can upgrade cheaply, enter the iMac. The first generation iMac can be had off ebay now anywhere from $20.00 to $60.00 bucks. I purchased a Bondi blue one for $59.99 and boy am I happy. Now I love new tech things and gizmos but as far as computers go the prices are way too high. The iMac is an all in one unit with a Cd or Dvd drive on some models, 2 usb ports, a 10/100 lan port, two built in speakers, head phone port, speaker port, and a dial up modem.

These iMacs came with OS 9 X but mine came with OSX panther which is a very good operating system. This iMac can still hang with all the big boys as I'm currently running adobe photoshop CS3, adobe audition, microsoft office 2007, itunes, and the iLife suite.

I work on my iMac sometimes hours on end and I leave it powered on all night and it never slows down like my windows computers. I multi-task sometimes up to six internet windows and microsoft word with no slow downs or crashes.

Upgrading this computer was a breeze for me, I added 1GB of memory, and a 300Gb maxtor hard drive. I haven't figured out how to upgrade the CD drive yet but I just purchased a External DVD RW drive to use and it seems to work smooth on the iMac.

Overall the iMac is far superior to most computers if you need to do publishing or other online work without the thing crashing. iMacs are very affordable and you can't go wrong purchasing one off ebay or a used apple retailer.
