Ah Boracay!!! The place of the Wahines and Beach Boys.
It was 2005 when I first set foot on this island. I was on my first year as a yuppie so I was pretty much able to save some money for this kind of adventure.
From Cebu we travelled by boat to Ilo-Ilo, Air travel was expensive then there were no packages offered specially during a peak season. When we arrived at the Ilo-ilo seaport we then took a 5 hour travel by V-Hire to Caticlan. From Caticlan we paid for terminal fee and rode a small boat towards the island of Boracay at Station 3, back then there was no specific station for unloading, you can right away get off the boat at the station shore. We met with the rest of our companions who travelled by plane. Lucky us, they were the ones who paid for our room accommodation which was around Php3500 a night. The place is one big party haven, they surely didn't vote this island one of the best beaches in the world for nothing.
All day, all night, the island is alive. It is jam-packed with tourist both local and abroad. The prestine white beaches lures people to appreciate it but not only that, the setting itself. The shores were not hoarded by their owners, in fact they shared the shores so that tourist can just jump from one place to another.
I had the chance to do snorkelling during the day as my friends paid for it. Wow, the marine biodiversity of the place is truly remarkable. We also hopped from one station to another and did some shopping at D'Mall. We ate at different restaurants, food is expensive around Php250 per meal or around $6.
I met a dreadlocked henna artist there who showed us the best places of the island, I also met famous people who happens to be a regular tourist and whom my friend has been friends with. Funny thing is that, instead of taking photos of them, they were the ones taking photos of me and my friend. Too bad I did not have a copy of the pictures they took, it would have been nice to remember my friend's face.
There are actually better beaches here in Cebu but the environment boracay offers cannot be topped. Boracay is just truly alive.
