I had decided of late to try and learn more about repairs on my Subaru Forester. I have found the Subaru dealers to be extremely overpriced when it comes to repairs. My Forester had some trouble starting after sitting for a period overnight. I diagnosed it as needing a new air charge sensor.
I priced it at the local Autozone because I knew the dealer would charge over 300.00 for the part. Autozone had it for about 239.00. I quickly remembered that there was a place online that I bought at once in a while called rockauto.com. I was shocked to see that they had one for about 93.00. I quickly ordered it and it arrived pretty promptly.
It made me realize what a mark up the dealers and Autozone must have. I quickly put it in myself. I am very proud of this repair because if I had brought it to the dealers it would have ended up being a 500.00 plus repair bill for certain.
A friend at work had taken a look at this before I did it and he said that he would let the dealer do the work. I was not going to be intimidated as it looked to me pretty simple. The Forester has been starting pretty darn good now and I have been walking around with a smile on my face all day.
My hope is that more folks get interested in doing their own repairs as opposed to letting the dealers and some of the unfairly priced repair shops have a hay day at the consumers expense.
