My kids have always fought thermometers, tooth and nail. They don't like having their arm held down, for the arm pit reading. They won't hold still or keep the thermometer in the right place, for the under the tongue reading. And, seriously, is there anyone who doesn't mind a rectal thermometer?
So, I was pleased to find an ear thermometer, for under $30, and figured hey - it's what their pediatrician uses, I may as well give it a shot!
They don't mind having their temperature taken at all anymore. They don't fight me, they don't scream, and because they don't do those things, I can actually get an accurate reading!
It's very easy to use, and they say that it's more accurate than under the tongue, or arm pit. They have disposable plastic protectors, to put around the thermometer, so it doesn't get ear wax all over the unit, or anything like that.
I highly recommend getting one, whether or not you have kids. The read out is faster, and it's very easy to make sure you have it in correctly.
