Brookfield Zoo prides itself on being one of the best zoos in the United States. It has very comfortable and authentic living areas for the animals and it takes wonderful care to be the best in care for the animals and education for the guests. When you are a member of the zoo, you get free admission any time of the year-the number of free admissions you get depends onthe level of your membership. They have a mailer they send out via email that shows off different aspects of the zoo, explains educational programs for kids and adults, and gives zoo news regarding birthdays of animals, new arrivals, new attractions, etc. They are always working on building new attractions that will really wow the guests and make their animals more comfortable. One of their newest exhibits, for example, is a wolf area. They have a pack that lives in a wooded area-I believe it's at least an acre, but most likely more-plus a viewing area: A cabin with all sorts of information on the wolves, touch and feel things for the kids, even a small room where you go in and hear the nighttime howling with a small group of people that really takes you there! Best of all, they have video cameras set up in different areasof the actual exhibit so you can watch the wolves from afar without interfering with their routine.
They have similar attractions throughout the park-the reptile house, ape house, big cats, they have a polar bear grotto, arctic area inside a huge building so you can see colder area animals, and much much more!! If you want to pay a bit extra, you can see a dolphin show, too. Along with tis, you can really be a part of the zoo by adopting an animal of your choice-anything from a Tiger to a cockroach!! Each adoption comes with a plush toy (ok, maybe the cockroach doesn't come with a plush toy-I don't know), a picture of the animal, and an educational packet-IDEAL for kids (and adults!) who love to learn more about their favorie animals!!
Brookfield is just west of Chicago in Illinois. A must see for everyone! Check them out online to find out more about their educational programs and to see if you'll be there in time to go to an activity for your family :)
