My 8 year old daughter is a stuffed animal and dog enthusiast. As a reward for straight A's on her report card, we took her to Build-a-Bear Workshop so she could build her own stuffed animal. Since she loves dogs, she choose a cute brown and white dog to build.
When we entered the store, there were many different animals to choose from: dogs, dinosaurs, cats and of course, bears. The animals were not stuffed so we simply choose the "skin". Then, my daughter got to choose a sound (extra cost) and a heart to put in her animal. Then, a staff member helped my daughter pump the animal full of fluff. After the staff member closed the animal up, my daughter and I were ready to go create the birth certificate. We typed in all the owner info (my daughter's) and choose a name for her new toy. She named him Buster!
After he was named, she picked out clothes for her dog. Of course, the clothes cost extra! She choose a cute short and t-shirt outfit with little sandals. They had so many clothes to choose from: night clothes, sports outfits, halloween costumes, and professional uniforms such as doctor, police officer, and fire fighter. I suggested a Dallas Cowboy uniform or a pirates outfit, but my daughter wanted the simple "play wear".
Even though it was little costly for a stuffed toy (18.00 for the dog, 17.00 for the clothes and shoes), the experience was so fun. They have animals ranging in price from 12.00 - 25.00. She can't wait to go back and get night clothes for her dog so she can change him before bed. If you have a child that really likes stuffed animals, take them to Build-a-Bear Workshop so they can create a new toy.
I really like the idea that a child can custom build their own toy. That way, every thing is just they way they want it!
