Cabbage Patch dolls are back, and in general that is a good thing. These oddly cute dolls are something that many women remember fondly from childhood. The newborn dolls are smaller than traditional dolls and made to look like babies. They come in a variety of skin tones and hair colors, and they are a great size for tiny hands.
The problem I have with these dolls is that they all seem white. I want my daughter to have a variety of ethic backgrounds represented in her dolls, and these are not working for me. Also I went looking for an Asian baby doll for a friend of mine who adopted a child from China, and I couldn't find anything. Yes there are Cabbage Patch newborns that are supposed to be Asian, but they do not have Asian features. The black dolls don't look black either.
So in general, I would say that these are sweet dolls and definitely worth getting for your little one. Just don't expect them to be representative of any ethnicity other than caucasian.
