Last year at the holidays, I was in need of a stand mixer. While shopping at Walmart, I spotted a DuraBrand stand mixer for only $20. Of course, I was skeptical, but thought it couldn't hurt to try it out. If I didn't like it, I could always return it.
A few days later, I got the mixer out to make homemade candy. I quickly found out that the mixer had tons of power. Unfortunately, it had too much power. The speeds were pretty much high and higher. This mixer would be great for cookie or even bread doughs, but it wasn't what I needed.
Other than the lack of speed control, I wasn't fond of the bowl either. You had to turn the bowl yourself and the beaters didn't come close enough to the sides to thoroughly mix the ingredients.
One feature I did love was being able to detach the mixer from the stand use it as handheld mixer.
What you need a stand mixer for will determine if this mixer is the right model for you. I gave this mixer to my boyfriend's mom and she loves it.
