My family is hooked on Canasta!
Canasta is a card game that became "all the rage" in the 1950's. It's a type of rummy game with a South American flare. The Canasta Caliente game that I purchased at Target has a South American flare with the illustrations on the cards.
This game can be played by 2-6 players. We typically play in pairs, for a total of 2 teams of 2, or 4 players. In order to "go out" and end the game, you must form a "Canasta" which means having 7 or more cards of the same cards.
The directions are very clear and specify different rules depending on the number of players playing.
The true fun of this game is that many different generations can play and enjoy it together! My son, my parents and I just played a match tonight, as a matter of fact. It's fun for my son and I because we are learning it for the first time. It's also fun for my parents, who played it years ago when it was popular in the 1950's!
This is a great family game that can be enjoyed by any age. If your child can play basic card games, they will be able to play this game as well.
