I purchased this printer as a gift for my girlfriend, when she expressed an interest in starting her own side-business creating custom decorated cookies. Her plan was to use a printer to produce photos using edible ink, printed on edible paper, and then stuck to the top of a iced cookie. Since her old printer was having problems and had already been used to print with normal ink, therefore making it unsuitable to print anything that was to be eaten, I decided to surprise her with a new one.
I shopped around online and found a found a kit containing edible ink that was designed specifically for the Canon Pixma iP3000 printer. Since I already owned a Canon Pixma iP4000 as my own personal printer, I felt confident that this model would also be a good one. I ended up finding a decent deal on the iP3000 at a local store, so picked it up.
This printer uses four individual ink cartridges for black, cyan, magenta, and yellow, which makes it very economical when we run out of only a single color. It prints both text and photos very quickly, quietly, and with good color and great resolution. Paper can be fed into the printer in two different ways; through the top paper feeder, or by using the paper tray located at the bottom of the printer, and according to the instructions, it can even do double-sided printing. When you are done printing, the front and top of the printer can be collapsed down so that the printer takes up less space on your desk.
Sadly, the cookie business didn't work out, and this printer was reassigned to regular printing duties such as homework and photos, where it is still being used to this day. Printing is still just as fast and clear as ever, but it is far less tasty than it used to be. If you are in the market for a versatile printer that can produce very high quality results, I would not hesitate to recommend this one.
