I ordered this printer to replace an inexpensive "All-In-One" device that I was having problems with. I decided that rather than put all of my trust in one single device that does a mediocre job at several tasks, I'd be better off with individual devices that did a good job at each function. To handle all of my printing needs, I chose the Canon Pixma iP4000.

Compared to my previous printer, the Canon is better in just about every respect. It is much faster, much quieter, and does a much better job at printing.

One of the main reasons that I chose the Canon over some of the competitors was because of the ink cartridges that it uses. My previous printer had all of the color inks inside of one single cartridge. So, even if only one color ran out I still needed to purchase a new cartridge with ALL of the colors included. Naturally, this was quite costly. With the Canon printer, all of the individual colors are contained inside their own individual cartridges, so if one color runs out, I now only need to buy the one cartridge that I need. That is so much more cost effective, especially considering that all of the individual cartridges needed by the Canon printer still add up to less than the cost of the one multi-color cartridge required by my previous printer.

Also on the subject of ink cartridges, this printer also offers something that I hadn't seen before. Instead of one single black ink cartridge to handle both text and graphics, this printer uses two separate black cartridges; one specialized for each task.

Even though I don't currently use them, I also liked some of the more interesting features that this printer offers, such as direct printing from a digital camera, two options for feeding paper into the printer, and even dual-sided printing. I haven't taken the time to figure out all of these options, but it's nice to know they're there.

I guess I don't print all that often, but when I do, it's nice to know that I have a good printer to do the job. If you're in the market for a new ink jet printer that does a great job, don't hesitate to check out a Canon.
