Carhartt flannel lined jeans

These Carhartt Jeans, lined with Darkstone blue-gray plaid flannel, are more than a classic of American clothing. They really are warm.

My hubby is cold almost all the time. His current job of delivering papers keeps him jumping in and out of the car for about three hours every morning. For several months of the year, that means dealing with a Michigan winter. Since he got these jeans in early November, he has hardly had them off except for washing or sleeping! He says he’s finally found jeans that are warm enough.

One might expect that clothing from Carhartt would be heavy and durable, and these are no exception. The jeans are 15-ounce, 100% cotton denim, and the flannel is 65-35% cotton-polyester. The quality of flannel is excellent, and when you pick up this pair of pants it feels like two pairs. The flannel lines the entire inside of the jeans. The liner back panels do not have the yoke that shapes the upper backs of the denim, to reduce fabric bulk.

In every other way the jeans are standard, five-pocket style with a false flat-fell seam on the inner leg, and normal seams on the outer legs. The cut is straight leg (17.5 inch circumference fits over work boots) with a relaxed fit in hips and thighs. They have a zipper fly with a button. The front pocket corners are riveted. The one thing I don’t like is that there are only five belt loops, instead of seven. This means that there is one on each side seam, and one in the middle of the back, but not one above each back pocket. If a belt is worn, this configuration allows the jeans to hang unevenly in the back.

Another appeal of this style, for us, is that Carhartt makes these in small sizes. Hubby needs 28-30, and that is the smallest size offered. It’s really hard to find adult-size jeans this small. Sizes continue through 50-32, but not all increments are available from all sources.

The jeans already been washed five or six times since they arrived and were put to work. They are holding up well, which is saying something since hubby is really hard on clothes. They do take a long time to dry. You can’t just give these a quick spin in the dryer!

He ordered these Carhartt Flannel-Lined Jeans online, from Denim Express, but doesn’t remember how long it took for the order to arrive.

Worn with the Growler boots, he's staying warm.
