We have been with Cellular One for 10 years now so I feel that I have extensive experience with their company. In the beginning we signed up under one of their earlier promotional plans where we were excited that we got a free phone (very common now). Over the years, we have dealt with many different problems, ranging from billing problems, replacing phones, and coverage area concerns. None of these are specific to Cellular One, but are just problems one would expect to encounter. Overall, they have always solved the problems to our satisfaction. Only recently have we considered switching to a different carrier. We have been out of contract for some time now, so we are free to do so. I did notice that after they switched us to their GSM plan, coverage went downhill (compared to other carriers in our area). We have spoken to many friends with other carriers, and they do not seem to have as many "dead" spots as we do. We currently pay $100 per month for 4 lines of nationwide service & 1500 minutes (my mother gets a 20% discount through the company she works for).
It has been a frustrating decision to switch or not, because if we switch to another carrier, to get the same plan and minutes, we would end up paying more. We are very limited as far as other companies we can switch to because we are in a very rural area. With news of AT&T recently buying out Cellular One, we have decided to stay put to see what changes this brings. Overall, for the price we pay per month and the minutes we receive, I say it is a good value. I am used to the dead spots we have and I just plan around that in my travels. Customer service has been satisfactory.
