I was looking for a nice, sophisticated scent that was good for both at work and at night. Chanel N. 5 fit the bill.
The scent itself is very strong. So strong, that I don't really see the point in splurging on the Eau de Parfum (EDP), which costs a lot more, and is a lot more concentrated. I think the diffused version (Eau de Toilette, or EDT) is a lot more appropriate if you plan on wearing this during the day.
I like to wear this whenever I want to feel mature and elegant. It's great for job interviews (but just one tiny spritz, because even the EDT is quite strong). It's a musky floral scent. It has an old-fashioned elegance to it, which to me draws up images of old film stars like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe.
This really is suitable for all ages, and wears differently on everyone. I know grandmothers who wear it, yet at only twenty three, I can get away with wearing it too. It's very versitile, and that is why it has withstood the test of time.
I also really love the packaging of the EDT. No lids to open and close, the atomitizer is built right in to the top of the bottle, so all you have to do is pick it up and spray.
My only complaint is that there isn't any sweetness to this scent, and that is kind of my signature scent element. ALL my other perfumes have sweet notes. This is great for when I want to wear something completely different from what I usually wear, but a touch of sweetness would make it a little more familiar and comfortable.
I will probably continue to use this forever, not every day, but whenever I want to up the sophistication element.
