With several accommodation packages available from a modest $109 a night per person up to $369 a night per person, Chateau Vaudreuil just outside of Montreal, Quebec, Canada is an oasis of beauty, elegance and impeccable taste just waiting for the weary traveler to sink into and enjoy.
When my husband's business partner suggested that we take in the Formula One Grand Prix last year, my husband was excited beyond words. He is an F-1 fan to the extreme and as this was going to be the first ever that I had actually attended I wasn't certain what to expect. To convince me that I would enjoy our weekend mini-vacation, he coaxed me over to the website he had displayed on his computer.
"Look, mom...this is were we're taking our special ladies! Beautiful isn't it?" Indeed, the website announced a luxurious getaway that promised to be every bit as enticing to my partner's wife and I as the F-1 was to the men.
When we arrived there were two weddings taking place, Chateau Vaudreuil is as highly respected for it's beautiful grounds and reception Grande Hall for 'fairy tale' weddings as it is for the vacation or business traveler or for the individual, couple, group or business guests who want a little oasis away from home during their travels.
Entering the opulent reception area you are met by two sweeping staircases that wind upward from the main lobby of the Chateau to the 2nd floor. Heavy beams and wainscoting seams beautifully with the tastefully decorated ambiance that covers every inch of the Grande Hotelier 'diamond'. A 5 star, 4 Diamond accommodation, this luxury hotel has everything from old world beauty to quality service, rooms and meals.
A walk around the grounds is as enjoyable to the vision as it is to the senses as you are greeted with the scents of the many floral gardens in bloom during the summer months. Carefully tended and spotted with just the right amount of statuesque marble Gods and Goddesses, fountains, stone accent walls and borders, a stroll around the grounds in the evening sunset is accented by a stop at the pier which juts out onto the lake surrounding the Chateau, inviting you to sit and take in the sites while you enjoy the peaceful serenity of the lapping waves.
Entering our room we were met by a large, plush and marble accented bath including a huge hot tub for two. Folded neatly on the marble vanity lay two oversize Spa wraps and plenty of clean, spotless white plush towels and cloths. A package of exotic sounding soaps tied with gossamer ribbon and a wide selection of oils, shampoos, conditioners, shaving supplies etc were placed carefully within a dark reed basket.
The main room held a comfortable sofa and two arm chairs across from a large armoire which when opened revealed a large screen HDTV. The sitting area included a coffee maker with a selection of coffees and teas with a small fridge that was equipped with real cream! A gorgeous Ice bucket with two long stemmed wine glasses were also available.
The bedroom area held a massive king size bed with volumes of bedding and pillows so plush I could have taken one home with me! A large dresser to match all the other tables in the room as well as a wardrobe was placed gracefully around the room. The room itself could be closed off from the sitting area with double french doors. Some of the rooms had balconies with double french doors that led out to a small terrace equipped with a table and two chairs. The scene outside the bedroom window was of the back area of the chateau which held a large interlocked brick courtyard garden set up with white iron worked tables and chairs ready for anyone to have an early morning breakfast.
The room was spotless and the bed was incredible to sleep in. I normally don't sleep well when traveling but this particular stay was one that I enjoyed thoroughly including the sleep.
The meals served at the Chateau are world class, prepared with care and attention to detail. Service is impeccable and there are no 'jeans and t-shirts' allowed during the dinner hours, dress pants and shirts only please.
The Chateau offers Spa vacations and you can also arrange to have a Massage of your choice: Relaxation, Swedish, Californian, Reflexology, in the comfort and privacy of your room or pool side. The fees are very reasonable with a 60 minute massage costing $80 and with a number of additional services available as well.
In the back of the Chateau is an area where you can view artworks and ornamental offerings and I found a number of Oriental items that I'd love to have in my collection.
For a weekend away just to pamper yourself, your senses and your well being...Chateau Vaudreuil on the TransCanada Highway between Ottawa, Ontario and Montreal...is an oasis that must be experienced to be believed. Highly recommended!
