When we moved to our new house, we were installing more TV's in more rooms than we had previously. After comparing features and costs, it made more sense from a cost perspective to switch from DirecTV to Comcast. We had already been using them for our Internet service and were going to continue that in our new house as well so that left just our phone service which was Vonage. We looked at all the new gadgets they have for VOIP phone service that you can now purchase but we decided to go ahead and just bundle everything together in the Comcast triple play. The triple play gives you one price for HD digital cable, high speed Internet and Comcast digital voice phone service.
Comcast Digital Voice uses a RCA Digital Broadband modem. The service includes local and long distance calls within the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, voice mail and 12 calling features. International calling is available for a minute to minute fee which they claim is low but we do not ever call overseas so I really do not know how it compares to the rates charged by other companies. Unlike other phone companies like AT&T, they do not tack on additional fees and taxes to the bill.
The sound quality of our calls has been great and I have no real complaints about the phone service except like any other VOIP service, when your Internet goes out so does your phone. After years of having Vonage that went through our old Comcast high speed Internet service, we are already used to the occasional outages. I never had any complaints about my Vonage service and the new service seems to be about the same in quality and reliability but switching over and bundling it all together has been a good move for us. We now have only 1 bill to pay and keep up with and if there is ever a problem, one phone call to make to try and get it fixed.
