First of all, I must confess that I am in the beauty industry so I feel qualified to tell you abuout the CHI flat iron. I use one at the salon, and also at home on my own hair.
I always have to try products before I can sell them to a customer. Otherwise, I feel like I'm not tellling the truth. So I personally wanted a flat iron that would tame my naturally wavy hair while living through another rainy Pacific NW winter. I tried a couple of other brands with ceramic plates, (because they're the best for the hair and straightening), but they didn't seem to quite make the grade. My hair always got little straighter with those flat irons, but I always felt like it was going to reverse itself at any moment and all my work was for naught. Being in the beauty biz, I knew about the CHI irons, but because they were higher priced I kept thinking I could still get a quality flat iron without the high price. WRONG-O! I broke down and purchased the original CHI 1" flat iron and then turned around and bought another for work at the salon. LOVE IT! It gets super hot... and call me crazy, but it seems to straighten and make my hair shinier than those other 'cheaper' flat irons I've tried.
You're not just stuck making your hair straight either. With a little twist of the wrist (kind of like using a curling iron), you can achieve the soft curls of the starlets. Or you can run it through your hair and give it a slight curve as you go and achieve volume where you need it.
I bought mine at a beauty supply store that you may not have access to, but check your local salon to see if they retail it. Better yet, have them order one for you. (They can do that for you.) You won't be disappointed!
