One of my dachshunds developed an ear infection, he's prone to this. My husband and I took him to the vet and the little guy is now on antibiotics. He also has to have his ear cleaned with ChlorhexiDerm Flush before we put an antibiotic ointment into his ear.
ChlorhexiDerm Flush is great for cleaning out his ears and getting out all of the debris that collects in the ear canal. This flush is also for use on cats and horses. I purchased a 4 oz bottle at the vet's office for $8.00, but I've seen 12 oz for sale at Amazon.com for less (a 12 oz bottle is shown in the photo). A little of the flush gets squirted into the pup's ear, and when he shakes his head, which he will do, all of the loosened debris can be wiped out of his ear. Then we put the antibiotic into his ear. But this flush is also great for just keeping a pet's ears clean so that he won't develop an infection. It is a topical antimicrobial which is a cleansing/drying solution. It is just amazing how much gunk this cleans out of the ear.
Now that I know about this product, I think I'm going to keep it on hand to clean the ears of all of my three dachshunds. Infections are not fun to deal with.
