My husband and I were in Wal-Mart one night and I saw these Andes Creme de Menthe cookies for around $2 and put them in my cart. I continued to food shop but realized that these were going to be a splurge that I probably shouldn't try, so I put them back. Of course I intended to go back within the week and but two boxes then.
Well, this past Saturday we had our church ladies Christmas party and wouldn't you know, the gift I chose had bath lotion, shower gel and these Andes cookies insided. So it was meant to be after all and let me tell you - it was love at first bite.
I am an avid Girl Scout supporter, as I use to be one myself, but for half the price and being able to buy them more often? Well, my husband called these, "Girl Scout cookies - Plus"!
They are a decent size chocolate cookie with green mint filling placed on top of the cookie. The outside is coated in a smooth milk chocolate coating. The mint flavor is not overpowering, but definitely stronger than a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie.
There are 12 cookies in a plastic try, but of course I had to put them back into place when I opened the package because half of them fell out of their holders. The outer package does not seal or close, so you'd have to store any left overs into a large zip lock bag. But who in the world would have left overs of THESE cookies?
I will be purchasing more and putting these out for our Christmas party at our house. They add that special touch in presentation and of course flavor. Of course, they are just like the famous Andes Candies that you get at restaurants, but now they are in cookie form but much larger, so there's more to savor!
Update On Mar 07, 2010: Well, the Girl Scouts are packing it up, so if you find yourself needing a chocolate mint cookie fix, grab a box of these Andes cookies. I'll be getting some this week for sure. The blend of chocolate and mint is really good and I think overall a little more "minty".
