My children love to do crafts. I think that most kids do. I'm one of those adults who really enjoys crafts, goes out and buys expensive supplies and then fail miserably because my hands don't seem to perform up to my imagination's expectations. Recently while at Hobby Lobby I purchased a foam stocking making kit for my children.
The Magichand Stocking Kit makes 30 foam stockings that double as gift tags. I am always trying to find new ways to personalize my gifts so I though that my children could decorated the stockings and we could attach them to our gifts.
This kit comes with 60 foam shaped stockings with tiny holes punched all along the outside of the stocking. White ribbon (I am not exactly sure how much but it is a lot), white foam tags and green and gold glitter glue. The process of making these stockings seems fairly simple. Place two foam stocking shapes together thread the ribbon in and out of the holes (a simple hand sewing stitch) attach a tag and decorate.
I wish it was that simple. Other than drawing on the stockings my two year old doesn't have the hand eye coordination to participate in this craft. He drew a little with the glue and then gave up. My nine year old daughter enjoyed the decorating portion of this craft but she despised the sewing. Even I found it difficult to thread the ribbon through the tiny holes of the stocking. If a plastic needle would have been included in this kit it would have been much easier. Overall this was a very disappointing craft project for my family. On a positive note I was certainly happy that it was cheap. You definitely get what you pay for.
