This is an adorable little Chubby Board Book for small children. It is called Christmas Wishes. What strikes me about this book more than anything are the illustrations. They are festive and beautiful and so is the rhyming story that goes with it.
I find the bears in this story rhyme sweet and adorable. Even their clothes are cute! The book shows a bear family as they prepare for Christmas.
We see the bears dragging an evergreen tree through the snow. Later at night, we peer through their frosty window as they hang ornaments on the tree. Next we notice carolers have managed to find their way to our bear family's front porch. Papa bear hangs mistletoe as two tired bears climb the stairs up to bed. A human Santa rides through the sky on Christmas morning. Next we see the little bears opening presents, which is my favorite scene. Then the bear family is walking up a path to the cute little church. Finally, mama and papa bear read their little ones a good night story.
I would have said this book is for toddlers because it is a board book, but I don't think many toddlers would sit still for the poetry, which is short and very sweet, by the way.
This book was written by Alan Benjamin and illustrated by Christopher Santoro. I would recommend you look through this book to see if this might be the type of book your child would like. I find it adorable and fell in love with the pictures, but I wonder if this book isn't something adults like better than kids do, or at least adults might appreciate the beauty of this book more than children. I enjoy it very much.
