If you haven't noticed already, I am a HUGE movie fan, love to see and watch and rate movies, just one of my favorite past-times. Recently I rented the movie Cloverfield. There was much hype to this movie and that made my interest quite high. Once on DVD I rented it with expectations of thrill and excitement.
Directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost) this seemed like a rather promising prospect. The film is shot from the perspective of a novice who had been at a going away party for a friend and was in charge of taping video good-byes. This of course lends itself to some shakey filming, but makes you believe its happened or really is happening. There are no big names in this film, the acting is okay, and the premise of the film is Manhattan is being attacked by "something large" and will soon be eradicated by the military.
Overall, this was an average rating, closer to a "B" like movie than a huge blockbuster. There are "Mist" like qualities and possible prehistoric reptiles that come ashore to destroy the island and eat its inhabitants. Although there were some good jolts and sudden thrills, this would not be a movie I would recommend, more of a wait and see it on SciFi.
