My husband and I were trying to get pregnant when my brother announced he was proposing to his girlfriend. Once he had, my future sister-in-law asked our whole family to be in the wedding, and of course we accepted- we were so excited. She decided on this beautiful ballgown style bridesmaid dress for her bridesmaids, and when we went to try them on, I jokingly said to my mother "You watch, now that I've bought this dress, I'll get pregnant." Guess what? I did. :)
There was some hemming and hawing about what to do. The bride really wanted us all to look the same, and I was unable to return the dress anyway. Besides, I had never worn a strapless gown before, and I looked good in it! Luckily we found a seamstress who was easily able to just move the empire waist a bit higher, hiding my belly under the full skirt- voila, instant maternity gown!
I must say, everyone was very pleased with this choice of dress. All four of the bridesmaids had very different body shapes, yet we all looked fabulous in the same dress. It fit well, there was no tugging on the top to keep it up, and the pickups in the skirt kept it full without needing any itchy tulle underneath. The material was soft and comfortable- I loved it!
The only complaint we all had was that some of the pickups had fallen out by the end of the reception- for $180, they should have lasted a bit longer, I think. However, my daughter plans on fixing the pickups and reusing this dress as her prom gown next year, so it was defnintely worth the investment.
I can't imagine things would have turned out nearly as well as they did with a different style dress. A+!
