I have had to endure some swelling in my legs recently due to inflamation from a hornet sting. I had been wrapping my leg with elastic bandages to move the swelling out. When I was shopping at Walmart this past weekend I saw these Dr. Scholl's Graduated Compression socks on display next to the regular socks. They caught my eye because of the words....."helps reduce swelling of feet and legs".
I was curious to try them. It is a gradual compression which means that it is tighter at the foot and ankle and gradually opens wider toward the knee. They are an over the calf style of sock which is exactly what I needed. My swelling is now just at my knee.
I wore them to work on a day when I am on my feet at least 12 hours. I immediately felt the compression around my foot and ankle. It was a nice sensation of support. After about one hour, I no longer was thinking about the compression. It was very comfortable and at the end of the day, my swelling had reduced by at least half!
These socks are perfect for the person who travels and has problems with swelling during a flight. If your legs are aching at the end of your day, you should get some of these to try for yourself.
The fabric is very much like a nice pair of trouser socks. It's very smooth and they are not too thick. I would highly recommend this sock if you are on your feet alot like me.
They come in only two colors, black and tan. I wish they came in more colors but for me the black works the best while I am working. I am definately going back to Walmart for a couple more pairs of these.
What a great find!
Update On Nov 04, 2008: I went back and bought two more pairs of these socks. I think they really help to reduce, or even prevent, swelling for those of us who are on our feet all day long. The tan pair has a twisty design and the black pair is smooth with no design.
