With my first child, I tried baby wearing and it didn't work out. I had a wrap sling and by the time I figured out where to fold, tie, loop, swoop and swirl the fabric, I was exhausted! For baby number two, I wanted to try baby wearing again, but using something easier and more time friendly.
After much googling and asking other mommy friends, I stumbled across Hotsling products. This sling is exactly what I had envisioned in my mind, one piece of fabric, all sewn together so there is no additional "assembly" by the user. Just put it on, slip in the baby, and head out to do whatever - while having two hands free to chase after other siblings!
The one downside to this sling is that they are a "custom fit" and not adjustable, so you have to figure out what your size will be, order it and hope it works out. As your body changes post pregnancy, you may need to re-measure and order a different size to continue wearing your child.
The sling came with an informational DVD showing you how to put on the sling, put the baby in, and even remove the baby (who knew there was a technique to all of this??). There are different positions you can put your child in as they grow, which is great so that your older child isn't staring at your chest, but instead the world around them.
The sling I purchased is reversible, which is awesome if one side gets dirty, or if you want to coordinate with your clothing. It's 100% cotton, so very durable with no stretch. They also make a sling with 3% Lycra to have a bit of give, if I get another sling I'd like to try that out to see if it's a snugger fit.
So far, this sling is working out great! I use it weekly when her older brother is in his Gymboree class, and I have both hands free to help him maneuver the obstacles. When we go on walks, I always have it with us in case she decides she doesn't want to ride in the stroller anymore - and since it's just fabric, it folds up easily into a very small square. When I do wear her, 95% of the time she will fall asleep. So, if she's not wanting to nap, I'll put her in the sling and vacuum - she's out like a light!
I'm very pleased with this sling and truly believe that they're worth the investment.
