VTech 5.8GHz 4 Handset Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System

We purchased the vtech 4 handset cordless phones from woot.com, this past March. Now for $42.99 for 4 cordless phones, this was a really good deal, plus it had an answering system. Note: woot charges $5.00 for shipping on any item and for those not familiar with woot.com, they offer a different item every day.

I received these phones within the week and after charging, they work really well. We placed one in our office, bedroom, living room and family room.

The phones come with caller ID and the base has the digital recorder for messages. You can set the clock, make an announcement to leave a message for someone at home, record your digital message for missed calls, and even find a lost handset. But there is no speaker.

Needless to say, I never thought to check for a "hands free" mode, as I just assumed this was always included in cordless phone - won't do THAT again! I hate that I have to hold the phone in order to talk and even though I can plug in a headset (not included) with speaker, the quality of the call goes down drastically. Also, there are times when I am told it sounds as if I am talking under water while on a call. And from past cordless phones I have had, the reason we even went cordless was so that you could talk on speaker while having the phone clipped on your clothing.

The phone range from my living room where the base is, to our mailbox which is the distance of a standard two car driveway, starts to cut the call off and get warbled. So, to me, that range is not very good for anyone with a large yard or property.

Overall, the phones are decent and for the price, I really can't complain, but now I know why they weren't closer to $100, as at least the phones in that price range include hands free.

Once these phones die, I will make sure to get the speaker/hands free feature, as it is really a necessity for someone like me, who works from home.
