We noticed it was becoming more difficult for our old cat to leap up onto the couch and climb stairs as quickly as he used to. When his X-rays showed he had Arthritis, our vet suggested we give him Cozequin capsules for Cats. Cosequin is a vitamin supplement that is supposed to lessen your cat's joint pain from Arthritis. We purchased a box of 80 capsules and hoped our cat would have a better quality of life.
According to the Cosequin instruction booklet, it takes Cosequin about six weeks to show improvement in your cat. After about four weeks, we did see improvement in our cat. After six to eight weeks, we noticed our cat seemed to be less stiff and was more active.
Since he was pretty old, in his upper teens, he didn't spring around the house like a kitten and would not have been able to jump down from a table onto to hard floor, but I did feel Cosequin improved his mobility enough to continue him on this supplement.
Once his improvement leveled off around the eight week mark, it was time to reduce his dosage from one capsule a day to the maintenance schedule of one capsule every other day.
Cosequin is tuna flavored powder which comes in a capsule. At first I sprinkled this powder onto my cat's food (be prepared, it does not smell nice), but he was such a finicky eater, that I decided to just administer Cosequin as a pill and popped it down his throat.
I do recommend Cosequin. It is also available for dogs and horses.
