Crazy Taxi for the PS2 is almost a direct port of the Dreamcast version that came out nearly a decade ago, yet the action is still as fast paced and fun as ever.

Crazy Taxi is not a typical driving game. Most driving games recently have focused on acquiring a large collection of cars through racing, obtaining money, and completing challenge. Crazy Taxi is very much an arcade-style game -- easy to pick up, and relatively short, action packed, playing time.

The main idea behind the game is that you have to pick up and drop off people at various places in the Crazy Taxi world. You can choose one of three drivers, although none has an advantage over the other, and participate in various styles of gameplay.

The primary mode in the game has you racing against the clock, getting time bonuses for dropping people off in a reasonable amount of time, trying to get as much money (points) as possible. A game will typically not last longer than 15 minutes. There's also a mode for completing very specific objectives, such as getting from point A to point B in a very limited amount of time, or doing difficult stunts.

The graphics are a bit dated but are good and very colorful. Even with all the fast paced action there's no lag at any point. The music is so-so, and the sounds are good, but the voice acting gets repetitive and old, and is often over the top. Little things stand out here, such as the passenger hitting you when you crash, or jumping out of the car if you take too long or wreck too much, or pedestrians running to get out of the way of your cab barrelling down the sidewalk. Controls are a bit awkward at first, but you quickly get used to them.

Crazy Taxi has a lot of replayability, especially if you want to complete all the objectives and set really high scores, but more impotantly it's a game that's fun to play with other people, despite the lack of a 2-player mode. Anyone can pick up this game and play and it's fun to watch other people play as well. This has been a Greatest Hits title for a long time, so it's a great price for a fun experience.
