Growing up, my daughter was a huge Berenstain Bears' fan. We collected as many Berenstain books as we could. It was always fun and exciting discovering new titles.
This book is called The Berenstain Bears' New Baby. The title would lead you to think this is the story of the birth of Sister Bear. While Sister Bear is indeed born in this story, I find this story focuses slightly more on Brother Bear growing out of his crib and into a big boy bed.
The illustrations are adorable with very nice detail. My daughter loved this book and I enjoyed reading it. This particular Berenstain Bear book is not so wordy like some of the later books are. I found the later books sometimes tedious to read and didn't always look forward to reading them.
The story begins as Brother Bear notices he can't stretch out his legs in his now, too-small bed. Father Bear takes Brother Bear out into the forest to build a new big boy bed out of wood. Brother Bear wonders what will become of his old cradle. Papa Bear breaks the news of a new baby being on the way. Wouldn't you know it, by the time the two bears return from building the big boy bed, Mama Bear has already given birth and Sister Bear is already sleeping soundly in the old cradle. Oh, if only it was that easy, huh? Brother Bear is happy in his new bed and looks forward to being a big brother.
This is a cute book in every way! I recommend it to anyone, especially those who have a baby on the way or are moving a child into a big boy or big girl bed. Thanks!
