Purchasing a computer speaker system is not an easy feat. Many retailers have limited computer speaker stock, no audio displays, and only the boxes to choose from. Best Buy was the only store we found with store displays you could listen to, but they did not have a system we liked. After being so disappointed with the Philips 38W computer speakers, we researched several brands, models, and reviews. We found Cyber Acoustics to suit our budget and somewhat fit the output we wanted.
This Cyber Acoustics model CA-3698 boasts 38 total watts, 8 watts/ satellite and a 22 watt subwoofer. You get a whooping 80 watts peak power. This was the clincher for us. The total peak is more than double the Philips model and only $30 dollars more.
Installation is standard and easily achieved. However, the CA-3698 model falls short in wire length. The satellites are also in line attached so you are forced to keep them close together. We prefer our speakers sitting on opposite ends of the desk since you can get more of a surround feel without the need for a surround system.
Overall the sound quality is full, rich, and loud, a vast improvement over the Philips we returned. With the Cyber Acoustics model you can control the whole system, including the bass, from the satellite within arms reach. This is extremely convenient. The Philips system forced you to power on from the subwoofer.
The Cyber Acoustics CA-3698 2.1 speaker system has an output access on the satellite speaker so you can plug in a set of headphones for private listening. I really like this feature as my husband enjoys listening to music loud and late on the weekends. He can plug in headphones and let the rest of the family get their sleep.
As a bonus with this system you get a Mp3/iPod/handheld device cradle. We are using ours to hold the car plaque in the image.
Other than the short wire length we feel we are getting a lot of rock for our roll out of these Cyber Acoustics CA-3698 2.1 speakers. They are easy on the pocketbook and sound good, what more could you ask for?
