I wish that someone had helped me a bit more when I was hooking up my computer-I'm not very knowledgeable about this kind of thing. I pretty much lucked out with this modem, though! Apparently when you get Comcast High Speed DSL, you can only use certain modems for your hookup. When I first bought the service, they said that this was the best modem for their service, so I went and bought it. It was a reasonable price, especially since the others seemed to be twice as much or more in some cases! Well, I've had this one for about 3 to 4 years and it's worked great! The connection seems to be smooth and I have very few problems. There were some initial issues with my computer switching settings on me for a while on and off, but since that first month or so, it's been fine.
The only issues I have with this modem have to do with construction. I've never had it fall apart on me at all, but it appears to be a little flimsy. It's made with fairly thin plastic that has held up very well over the past years, but the base comes off and without the base the unit can't stand up. It lays on its side most of the time for me, but it has not effected the performance at all, so I guess that's fine with me! The other construction issue with it is the power cable-the cable itself is fine, but it can be unplugged from the actual modem quite easily, cutting power to the modem and thus making you lose your connection. If your modem falls over (especially if the base is falling off constantly, you have a greater risk of losing your connection. I've since figured out basically what I need to do to keep that prom happening and now I have no issues at all.
Overall, this is a great modem for your lighter work at home and such. I definitely recommend it unless you have greater needs than what it can give. For your basic computer dummy like me, though, this thing is great! Especially for such a good price!!
