Becoming a huge fan of David Cook while he was on American Idol, I anxiously awaited the debut of his first CD, Watching him perform on "Idol", I came to believe he could sing anything well. His cd is pretty much the type music I anticipated. I selfishly hope that someday he might record some of the songs from AI that he performed, such as "Phantom of the Opera". This cd, while very good is not as original as I had hoped. On AI, he showed such talent for taking old songs and making them his own, including "Phantom" and "Billie Jean", (yes, I know he borrowed another band's version of "Billie Jean") but still made you believe it was his alone. This cd is similar to other performers who are popular today, which generally are not that interesting to me, but David brings something to it that I like. David has the ability to perform any type music well and the personality to make you believe he is loving it. His down to earth personality and "I never expected this to happen" story makes you want to root for him to succeed. I'm already looking forward to cd #2.
Update On Mar 03, 2010: I was very pleased to hear two of David's recordings used at the Winter Olympics. "Heroes" was used during a Bode Miller skiing segment and David's version of "Billie Jean" was the song of choice for an ice skating performance. Just a couple of years ago, David was unknown and now, his music is heard all around the world. Dreams really do come true.
