I'm prefacing this by stating that I am a die hard horror fan. I don't care how terrible the horror movies are, I will watch them for the sheer comedic value of the actual movie every time. That said, George Romero spoiled me in the 70's with his Night of the Living Dead series.
When Dawn of the Dead came out a few years ago, I was expecting the same that I usually get out of remakes of movies, especially horror movies. I was expecting corny death scenes, and a new director with a new take on the movie. However, what I got was a masterpiece.
Dawn of the Dead was so amazing as a horror movie, with all the horrific visuals ranging from Celebrity Zombie Sharpshooting to Ambulances blowing up that I saw it, 4 times in the theater.
When the DVD came out, I was given an alternate ending and I was impressed by that too. The Dead series are not only fantastic, but they're scary too.
