Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances my old monitor was damaged and I found myself in dire need of a replacement. My immediate thought was to check online for bargains on sites like eBay or Amazon however a lot of the monitors seemed a bit expensive ($120-150+), even the pre-owned ones. So thanks to online forum communities, I found out that Dell sells refurbished monitors for decent prices. I ended up ordering directly from them a refurbished Dell IN1910 18.5 inch HD Flat Panel Monitor which after taxes came to a total of $107.54, however also comes with a 1 year warranty ("advanced exchange service").
This monitor was much wider than the previous one. It has a sleek glossy design and doesn't consume much space. The plus side is that if you're reading a site with a lot of text, you won't really have to scroll down much since more text appears due to the screen being so wide. Unfortunately though it seems to cut off pages shorter than usual so I'm constantly having to scroll down a bit more to find links or buttons.
In terms of image quality its fantastic. One thing I noticed was how vibrant the colors are. It's also got a 16:9 aspect ratio.
The one draw back is that it doesn't provide sound at any capacity. You need to connect external speakers to your computer. Fortunately I had a pair from an older computer but for those who don't, you'll have to go into extra expense (but from my research you can find decent quality speakers for under $20).
Overall I'd say for the price it was a great bargain especially coupled with a 1 year warranty. That makes me feel much more relieved because I was a bit nervous about ordering refurbished electronics since I've had bad experiences in the past with refurbished cell phones. Great picture, doesn't consume much space, bright, perfect for watching videos.. the only flaw is the lack of built-in speakers.
