As a mother of two young children, I am always looking for a good, quick, and accurate thermometer. The last time my oldest son was sick, I sent my husband out to Walgreens to get a digital thermometer that scans the forehead because my son is too young for a thermometer under the tongue, too old and squirmy for the butt method, and is too squirmy and it takes too long under the arm.
My husband came home with the DTT or Digital Temple Thermometer by Bestmed LLC. This thermometer allegedly "accurately measures body heat using patented R.A.T.E. technology (Rapid Accurate Temperature Establishment)". You simply turn on the power button, wait for the beep, and then put it to the temple. Very simple. However, you do not get an accurate temperature. If you take a temperature on the right side and then the left side, you can get a reading with a few degrees difference. Sometimes you even get a few degrees difference taking the temperature in the same spot. The last time my son was running a temperature, I tried the DTT and got readings of 99.4, 100.9, and 102.2. These readings were taken within seconds of each other and at or near the same spot.
This thermometer does have a few pros. It is very simple to use and gives a quick reading. Unfortunately that reading isn't accurate. It is non-invasive and easy to use on a sleeping child. There is a large digital display which is easy to read. It also has a memory and displays the previous reading.
Overall, I would not recommend this thermometer. I don't know why I bother to keep mine. I only use it to confirm a fever and get a rough estimate of the temperature.
