I realize that these lamps may not suit everyone, but when we saw these, we just had to get them. They were displayed as part of a living room display. We were getting the couches, and we really liked the way they looked with the couches. Plus, I love elephants.
That's right, these lamps have elephants on them! The base is styled to look like a palm tree column. It's has an antique bronze finish that is sort of patinaed. At the top of the base is an elephant holding up a reading light with it's trunk. The reading light "shade" is made to look like palm fronds. The actual light sits in a pole that comes out of the back of the elephant.
The lamp shade is covered in two types of bronze fabric that alternate in panels. The panels are trimmed with a fancy rick-rack, and the whole base of the shade is trimmed in dangling beads. The beads are made to look like silver beads, ivory, and little bronze elephants.
Like I said, the lamp style may not be for everyone, but it's actually not as gaudy as it sounds! The coloring is very subtle and would go with just about every color scheme. The lamps themselves work very well for lighting. The switch is a 3-way switch, so you can have just the reading light or just the main light or both lights on. We frequently use the reading light as a nightlight.
I really like my elephant lamps. They look fancy, yet blend into our color scheme, they work well, and they complement my collection of elephants from China, Thailand, and Indonesia. They make it seem like we actually have a designer living room (if you look past the mounds of toys)!
