I have subscribed to DirecTV for about 7 years and have been overall very pleased with their service.

The package that I subscribe too has all of the available channels, including the local channels, except for the pay channels like HBO. Because of my location, I also get NESN (New England Sports Channel - Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, Charlie Moore, etc), YES (Yankees - AKA the evil empire) and FSNY (New York Mets). I REALLY enjoy having these 3 extra sports channels. As a Red Sox fan this set up allows me to follow my team, watch the Yankees losses and pained after loss interviews and keep up with Pedro on the Mets.

I do feel, however, that DirecTV should allow those who live out of market to subscribe to these sports channels, a la carte. To the best of my knowledge, those who live out of market are able to purchase the MLB package, which includes all out of market games. While the MLB package is an excellent treat, it does not allow to see all of the additional pre and post game coverage, just the games themselves.

I also really enjoy the music channels. There is a channel for just about every music under the sun… and as a plus if I put on a music channel to fall to sleep by, after a few minutes the channel picture darkens so that the TV screen is not illuminating the room unnecessarily.

Overall we get a good to excellent quality picture and sound. The national FOX channel does sometimes have a poor video quality and the NESN sound is well below that of other channels, however I suspect this is more of a station issue other than a DirecTV issue. Also, where there is a storm system coming in we may get some pixelating and/or loss of picture or sound for a few moments to several minutes. This does not happen often and the same thing happens with the local cable provider and the Dish Network in our area so it is not limited to DirecTV and changing providers would not fix the issue.

The channel guide is accurate and allows one to see what is coming on that day as well as up to three full days later. It also allows you to set reminders for shows that you want to see by clicking on enter over the program in the guide.

I am also able to order movies on demand, for an additional fee per movie. Although I have taken advantage of this in the past recent other available rental subscriptions, such as Blockbuster Online, are more cost effective and have a much wider selection.

Overall I am very pleased with my DirecTV service.
